Why Senegal is AFCON’s Sleeping Giants

The cup of Nations is the main international football in Africa. In fact, it is Africa’s elite competition every nation always look forward to.

Qualifying for the competition is not always an easy task as there are countable teams like Somalia that have only entered the Nation’s cup once since it was founded in 1957.

While teams find it hard to grace the competition, Senegal have found it a little bit easy. They have qualified for the competition many times more than any other team but have been unlucky to win in any.

However, there are a couple of teams that have won the cup multiple times. Egypt was the first team to win the Cup in the first ever edition in 1957. Though they failed to add to their haul in the last few years, they have won three more titles than their closest challenger Cameroon.
