Governor Waititu reaches Ruto on phone over his arrest

After a dramatic arrest by the EACC detectives at his Runda home in Nairobi, besieged Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu was forced to seek for the help of his political buddy Deputy President William Ruto.

Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) took away the outspoken county boss after more than six hours of interrogation and search at his Nairobi homes.

The crime busters raided Waititu’s residence at Garden Estate a few minutes after 5am and started searching for files and documents.

Sources privy to the surprise raid said the governor immediately reached Ruto on phone informing the DP of his arrest and Ruto gave him an assurance that he was together with him.

The tens of officers camped at the home until noon when they arrested the county boss, who was restrained from leaving for work, and took him to Integrity Centre, the nerve centre of the EACC.

Of late Waititu has been a common face in Ruto’s tours across the country to market his 2022 presidential bid.

Earlier this month, the Kiambu County Government presented the Senate with a financial statement showing Waititu may have allocated budgets for functions unrelated to Kiambu.

The detectives carted away files and records relating to contracts issued by Mr Waititu’s administration. They also confiscated and carried away some number plates which were found in the boot of his Toyota Prado.

The governor told the senators that he was unaware of the improper expenditures and was equally shocked.

Waititu claims the witch hunts are ssociated with his close association with the deputy president William Ruto and promised to stick by him no matter how waters will turn murky
