Kenya has joined other countries in marking the World Day for Cultural Diversity celebrated every year on 21st May.
This years theme is Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development.
The human race is called upon to embrace cultural diversity and the ways in which it helps develop positive dialogues among nations, educators, and cultures.
On this day, we celebrate not only the richness of the world’s cultures but also the essential role of intercultural dialogue for achieving peace and sustainable development.
We understand the importance of dialogue on cultural diversity, respecting the values/beliefs of different cultures and working together to develop a future of inclusivity and peaceful coexistence.
The World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development is an occasion to promote culture and highlight the significance of its diversity as an agent of inclusion and positive change.
It represents an opportunity to celebrate culture’s manifold forms, from the tangible and intangible, to creative industries, to the diversity of cultural expressions, and to reflect on how these contribute to the dialogue, mutual understanding, and the social, environmental and economic vectors of sustainable development.
Three simple things you can do to celebrate #CulturalDiversity at home:
· Explore music from different cultures
· Share a meal with someone from a different community
· Read a book authored by someone from another country #WorldDiversityDay pic.twitter.com/z16rHq7eAF— USAID Kenya (@USAIDKenya) May 21, 2019
