Suspected Prison Warder’s Killers Meet in Court

Two men suspected to have killed a female prison warder will appear in court today to defend charges murder.

The two, Mr Joseph Kairu and Raymond Kiplimo of Nakuru GK Prison are reported to have murdered their colleague Ms in Subukia on April 2, 2019 and dumped her body in a forest.

 

Joseph Kairu and Raymond Kiplimo yesterday pleaded not guilty to the murder of Caroline Jepchirchir when they appeared before High Court judge Justice Rachel Ng’etich.

A mental examination report brought to court by the prosecution declared the two were mentally fit to stand trial for murder.

According to the prosecution led by Amos Chigiti, the two allegedly conspired and jointly murdered Jepchirchir who is a prison warder at Nakuru Women GK Prison.

“The accused persons allegedly attacked and murdered Jepchirchir on the night between April 2 and 3, 2019 in Subukia within Nakuru County,” read the charge sheet.

Chigit asked the court to deny the suspects bail, describing the two as a flight risk who could abscond court once released on bond.

Criminal Investigations Officer Clive Ongeri swore an affidavit in court that claimed Kairu was a usual absentee at work, which had led to disciplinary actions against him and if released, he may be hard to track him.

“The accused persons who allegedly murdered and dumped the deceased in a bush are presumed dangerous and can be a threat to witnesses especially their colleagues,” read the affidavit.

The court also heard that their security was also at risk because their colleagues may attack them. The prosecution submitted that the two were also resourceful and could interfere with witnesses if released.

“One of the suspect was at large and we fear that he may flee if released on bond,” read the affidavit.

The judge ordered the defence team to file a reply before they appear in court today.
