KDF soldiers at the Mtongwe were rudely woken up after two of their colleagues died just moments after getting out of bed.
The two officers at the Likoni-based barracks are said to have been involved in a fracas shortly after completing the morning rituals.
But trouble began when one soldier identified as Gilbert Kibet snatched Naftali Kimutai’s G3 rifle and shelled three bullets onto his body, killing him instantly.
Fearing backlash from the irate soldiers who started to mill around the crime scene, Gilbert turned the smoking gun on himself.
After causing serious tissue injuries on himself, soldiers hurriedly rushed him to the military sickbay from where he succumbed to his injuries.
In another incident that occurred in April, a KDF officer from a recruit training group in Kamagut, Uasin Gishu County killed three relatives, including an aunt and two uncles before committing suicide.
