Why Tenants Won’t Vacate Sunken Ruaka Apartments Soon

Tenants of a condemned Ruaka apartments have vowed to stay put despite their parking lot sinking away early this week.

The tenants who woke up to a sunken car park Wednesday claim the landlords should give them back their rents before they can move out.

The multi-storey apartments were condemned by the National Construction Authority as unfit for habitation after its carpark sunk.

NCA attributed the damage to an ongoing excavation exercise just adjacent to the apartment, saying the people conducting the excavations were doing it unprofessionally.

A tenant at the apartment said that moving was an expensive venture, and that the vacation notice was short.

“Moving out means paying another rent and you know how moving is expensive. We need time to figure things out before moving. I can’t just move and I don’t have extra money somewhere that I can use to pay the rent,” said one of the tenants.
