A couple in Kibra is in hot soup after their domestic wrangles led to the burning of some 300 houses at the Laini Saba area of Kibra.
Reports indicated that the couple had been quarrelling for a long time Tuesday, but it is only when the wife began to cook that things got out of hand.
The argument is said to have intensified between the two, and one of them is believed to have knocked off the cooking stove that burst out in flames.
The fire would later on spread to the other adjacent houses consuming valuables worth millions of shillings.
The fire spread quickly consuming some 300 houses in its wake and leaving hundreds more in the cold.
Area MCA Cecilia Ayot advised couples to seek better ways of resolving their differences and not resorting to violence.
“There are many ways to solve problems but violence is not one of them. People should seek a third party instead of getting physical because we can see how a quarrel has damaged the livelihood of 300 homes,” she stated.
Ms Ayot said the area landlords should make way for the fire engines to pass through in case of emergencies.
Apart from electricity fueling the fires, the other challenge witnessed by firefighters is the difficulty in accessing the areas.
The couple’s identity was not immediately revealed to save them from the backlash that may have followed.
