Bandari FC head coach Bernard Mwalala has admitted that his side has no chance of bagging the SportPesa Premier League (SPL) title this season and has now shifted focus on finishing among the top three.

The dockers are currently third on the SPL log with 52 points, 11 behind leaders Gor Mahia FC with only six rounds left before the season comes to a close.

“I am being realistic. There’s no way we are going to win the league this term. We have a few matches left and when you look at the gap between us and Gor, it will take a miracle for us to catch up with them,” Mwalala  told the media.

The tactician had previously maintained that his side was still firmly in the race but has finally thrown in the towel this month.

Instead, the former Kenyan international, who coached Nzoia Sugar FC before crossing over to Mombasa based outfit, is now eyeing a top-three finish in the league.

“We are now third on the table, we will strive to maintain the position. Also the gap between us and Sofapaka isn’t huge and so maybe we can catch up with them and move to second,” added Mwalala who led the SportPesa Cup finalists to a second-place finish last season, their best ever in the league.

“Maybe we should have done better because there are instances where we dropped points easily. But when I consider factors like the numerous injuries we had, I can say I am satisfied, we’ve done well,” he concluded.
