Auditor General goes after Kabogo

Ex-Kiambu governor William Kiambu maybe in trouble after a report from the Auditor general revealed discrepancies in his Sh250 million Biashara Fund.

According to the report, there have been irregularities starting from unpaid loans, undisclosed bank accounts, suspect bank balances and statements, stale cheques, unsustainability and non-payment.

In addition, the money which was run through Rafiki bank and Family Bank had a bank balance of close to Sh76 million and Sh3.7 million respectively, however, according to the cash books, the accounts show a balance of Sh7.9 million and Sh1.4 million respectively some that have remained a mystery.

According to the auditor general a number of cheques dating November 2015 worth Sh226.7 million, were discovered stale and there were no records of replacement.

Additionally, cheques worth Sh11.6 million were scheduled for transfer to Family Bank which was later cancelled.

However, the cancelled cheque was replaced with another one dated the same day and was cleared by the bank on the same day and according to the auditors, it was not clear why the cheque was not presented leading to erroneous balances.
