Plans to launch proposed Barrack Obama University–a hub for innovation of Agriculture and Technology are at the peak reveals Siaya County.

Photos of the new university infrastructure under construction show that the pace is rather fast and the first batch of students enrollment will be soon.

Governor Cornel Rasanga who is the brainchild has stated that he is determined to ensure that the new varsity meets the required standards.

“The University has been my legacy project and the idea was mooted in 2013 that’s why I will be pushing for it day and night till it operates,” said Rasanga.

The university would be a constituent college of the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, JOOUST.

According to JOOUST council chairman Prof. Steven Loyatum, Barack Obama university is situated in a site suitable for innovations on agriculture and technology.

Speaking on Tuesday while meeting Gov Rasanga and Barack Obama University task force, Prof. Loyatum said, “We shall use the campus as a hub to create growth and development, not for Siaya alone but entire Lake Basin Region.”

The new college named after the 44th President of the United States Barack Obama will focus on research on agriculture and fisheries development and promoting extension services for local farmers.

The university will also partner with US varsities to supporting a learning exchange programme where students will study in Kenya for two years and complete the remaining two years in the US as part of a four-year programme.
