Courts Holds Foot Down in Crushing Suspected Drug Trafficking Couple

A Court has deepened the suffering of a couple charged with involvement in drug and trophy trafficking by declining an application to unfreeze their assets and bank accounts.

In 2018, the Assets Recovery Agency (ARA) made an application to the courts to allow them to freeze all the accounts owned by Mr Joseph Wanjohi Muthee and Ms Jane Wambui Wanjiru, after suspecting the monies were proceeds of drug trafficking and wildlife trophy trade.

However, the couple would later run back to the courts arguing the restraining orders by ARA had been obtained through misrepresentation.

They further argued that the four parcels of land that they owned and the RAnge Rover Sport and the Mercedes Benz were acquired from legitimate business money.

The frozen accounts contain Sh10 million and the other has a half a million shillings.
