They say that a friend in need is a friend indeed. Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu might have just confirmed the true nature of his friendship with Deputy President William Ruto.

The Governor has been on the spotlight for the better part of the week following the bizarre expenditure uncovered in his County of Kiambu.

Waititu is alleged to have spent sh2 billion in questionable expenditure that was first revealed by the Auditor General who fowarded his report to a Senate committee that later summoned Waititu so as to try and get the true picture of things.

Senate’s County Public Accounts and Investment Committee (SCPAIC) showed payments of Sh902 million for coordination of State House functions, Sh58m for South Sudan peace process, Sh793m set aside for free primary education, Sh578m on State Corporations advisory services and Sh180m emoluments for retired presidents.

Waititu later claimed that the document containing the said expenditures was new to him and that he had never seen such a document. This even as he stood his ground that he was innocent and that a few individuals were out to tarnish his name and that of Kiambu County.

He for instance blamed former Governor William Kabogo for his current woes.

A number of leaders from Kiambu led by Waititu’s Deputy James Nyoro called on the DCI to take action on him even as a number of Kiambu Residents went on Street protest to voice their dissatisfaction.

Well, Waititu has finally got a shoulder to lean on and it is Deputy President William Ruto’s.

Speaking in Waititu’s backyard of Kiambu, Ruto questioned the interrogation Waititu was subjected to in Senate.

According to Ruto, some of the questions “baba yao” was subjected to were meaningless and uncalled for.

Ruto was quick to point out that Governor Waititu’s position does not allow him to know how the National Government spend’s.

“Huyu baba yao ni governor wa Kiambu….kwa budget ya Kiambu hakuna mambo ya retired president, hakuna mambo ya South Sudan, hakuna mambo ya State house…Waititu anafaa aulizwe tu mambo ya Kiambu..hizo mambo zingine ni kazi yatu kule Nairobi,” Ruto said.

“Hata nashangaa huyu baba yao atajuaje haya maneno na kazi yake ni hapa Kiambu? ” he posed.

“Ile ya national government tuko na waziri wengi huku na watajibu hayo maswali… Bibilia inatuambia kila mtu atatabeba mzigo wake..Huyu Baba yao asiwekewe mslaba ambayo si wake.” added the Deputy President.

Ruto’s latest take on this Waititu’s saga is likely to elicit reactions from a number of Kenyans and leaders.

With Ruto also being accused of being corrupt, his latest take on Waititu’s budget mishap will dominate political talks across various parts of the country.

Meanwhile, the Kiambu in South Sudan budget Drama continues.
