Kenyan Prisoners Attempt to Escape, This is What Police Does!

Police shot dead an inmate after he attempted to escape custody while in transit to Machakos GK Prison.

The inmate who was among a group of 39 being transferred from Kangundo police cell to the Machakos penitentiary took advantage of the long distance to try his luck at escaping custody.

He is said to have attempted to snatch a rifle from a police officer guarding the prison bus when a struggle ensued.

The inmate reportedly assaulted the police officer before the armed police opened fire on him.

He was pronounced dead on arrival at Machakos Level 5 Hospital.

Kangundo Sub-county police commander, Benjamin Ong’ombe confirmed the incident, saying the officer had to fatally shoot the inmate after he turned violent.

The police officer escorting the inmates was treated and discharged at the Machakos Level 5 hospital.

The incident open wounds to a 2017 incident where six inmates in transit from Kangundo Police station escaped custody and one of them was fatally shot.

Five escaped but were later rearrested after a short chase.
