DEAR WILLIAM RUTO

Things may be getting tough for you. They’re closing in on you from several corners. Their main dagger is the corruption tag being fixed on you. Civil society has picked up the narrative and soon we will have more demonstrations seeking your replacement.

Your allies are also being crippled. Don’t ignore what North Eastern leaders are doing to Duale. It’s very connected to you. Kipchumba Murkomen has been silenced by Arror and Kimwarer dam scandal.

What are you doing to counter them? To be honest you’re trying your best to rebrand. From eating matumbo in vibandas, buying roast maize, attending football matches and making pledges you cant honour to holding church harambees. Sadly this isn’t working. You definitely need to do more and better.

To shed off the Corruption 001 tag will be difficult. You need to make tough choices. You may have to PUBLICLY disown a few of your friends especially those seen as corrupt. You may need to surrender or ‘donate’ a prime asset to the State. Kamlesh Pattni did it and we forgot about Goldenberg. You may need to show a more humane side of you.

Many take you to be a beast. Show them you’re human. Not through church donations not only because it has failed but also because most of us don’t care about what’s donated to churches as it ends up building mansions and buying cars. If you’re to give out money, do something touching on individuals. Waive hospital bills, sponsor patients seeking medical help. Such resonate with the common man.

On Gideon Moi, don’t underestimate him. He has a name, connections and more money than you do. Ignore the narrative that he’s a nobody. You were a nobody until you joined ODM. Uhuru was a nobody sometime back but just like Gideon, he had a name, connections and money.

All in all, go back to the drawing board before the said board is snatched away from you.

William Kabogo
