Arming of Private Guards takes a tribal twist

Arming of Private Guards has been a debate which has been going on for quite sometime. The debate has been clouded by different reactions.

The idea of arming Private Guards was triggered following different attacks which have hit the country with the recent one being the Dusit attack.

The aim of arming private guards being to offer first hand security in case of such an attack.

But the debate is now taking a political twist. It has been said more than once that people from the Luhya Community are the majority serving as private guards.

This was made bold by COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli during the Labour Day celebration. Atwoli supported the arming of Private Guards stating that Luhya community form the largest percentage serving as guards.

But the government will have to review all the security measures before implementing such an action. Which involves training of the guards before agreeing to arm to the guards.

What is the thought on this idea of arming private guards?
