Kenyan workers are among the most hardworking and skilled individuals in the world.

In a recent Human Capital Index by World Bank, the Kenyan workforce was ranked the fourth on the continent.

Kenya was ranked behind Seychelles, Mauritius and Algeria. Globally, Kenya was ranked 94 with a Human Capital Index (-) score of 0.52.
Seychelles ranked 43 globally with a score of 0.65; Mauritius 52 with a score of 0.60 and Algeria 93 with a tie score of 0.52, matching that of Kenya.

Except for Algeria, Mauritius and Seychelles, Kenya ranked position one when compared among the large economies in sub-Saharan Africa.

With the above stats, it is clearly evident that the Kenyan Worker is playing a big role in the development of this nation yet they have continued to be neglected by the Government. Kenyan workers are paid peanuts and have some of the toughest working conditions you’ll find around.

As Kenyans mark Labour Day, a number of leaders have asked the Government to consider looking into the plight of Kenyans and help in finding a lasting solution to the problems that they face.

Among the leaders is ANC Party leader Musalia Mudavadi who has noted that despite being one of the most hardworking worldwide, the Kenyan worker is still heavily taxed.

He has also addressed the issue of corruption that keeps having a negative impact on the Kenyan worker and the economy.

Below is Musalia’s Full Statement on This Labour Day.

“Kenyan workers are the backbone of our economy, as we celebrate labour day, I pray that God continues blessing the work of your hands and this our beloved country. May you all have a happy Labour day.

The Kenyan worker is one of the most hardworking and heavily taxed worldwide. They deserve to get the best of services from the government through their taxes. We need to plug all avenues of corruption and prioritise projects that will benefit the majority of citizens.

It is saddening to see taxes and levies religiously contributed by the tax payer go down the drain through corruption and white elephant projects. As a country we ought to honour our hard working citizens by offering services and amenities commensurate with the taxes they pay.”
