Jasper Cillessen has revealed he wants to leave Barcelona this summer.

The goalkeeper has been limited to Copa del Rey appearances since joining the Spanish champions in a £11million deal from Ajax in 2016.

Despite helping Barcelona to two Copa del Rey titles, the 30-year-old has played second fiddle to Marc-Andre ter Stegen, the club’s no.1 in LaLiga and the Champions League.

Jasper Cillessen has failed to establish himself as a No.1 goalkeeper at Barcelona

But Ernesto Valverde always gave preference to Ter Stegen over Cillessen, regardless of the performance of the two players. Now, the Dutchman is fed up and has decided that he wants a move away from Barça in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The 30-year old shot-stopper has been treated unfairly at the club, despite the fact that his move coincided with the emergence of Ter Stegen as one of the best goalkeepers in the world. Cillessen’s decision to pursue a transfer is justified, and Barça are to blame.

Cillessen, who has made just 28 club appearances in almost three years, told Dutch television channel Ziggo Sport: ”First I will go on holiday and then I hope to have a new club where I can play, because I want to play.”

Frenkie de Jong will follow in Cillessen’s footsteps when his £65million transfer to Barcelona from Ajax goes through on July 1.

His Ajax and Netherlands team-mate Matthijs de Ligt has been linked with a £75million summer move to the Nou Camp.

Cillessen, who is international team-mates with De Jong and De Ligt, added: “I know Frenkie de Jong is coming, but is the De Ligt thing true?

“In any case, if you have the chance to go to Barcelona, you have to take advantage of it.”
