Senator Ledama Olekina has expressed his frustration alongside Kenyans’ on the fact that a public servant can withdraw ksh 381,000,000 in cash to pay suppliers.
He has stated that Kenyans are not stupid(Sisi si mafala) and that there is a stupid kind of theft going on( Kuna wizi ya ujinga!).
For real change, the senator has declared he will sponsor an Amendment to the Public Finance Management Act to restrict payment of vendors regardless of the amount using electronic payment systems.
“Corruption will kill this economy!,” he has lamented.
A number have called for the arrest of such individuals.
The matter has reminded Kenyans of when the Gov. CBK Patrick Njoroge proposed law to those withdrawing Ksh 1 Million and above, but parliament protested because CBK made regulations and implemented them without parliament’s approval as required by law.
The Central Bank of Kenya Governor Patrick Njoroge and the MPs have been at loggerheads after the latter refused to implement of Section 33(C) of the Banking Act which required CBK to develop and submit regulations prescribing conditions on deposits and withdrawals for parliamentary approval within 30 days claiming it is unimplementable.
