Kenyans on rampage, demand more corrupt convictions

Despite an overly-emphasised war on graft, a group of Kenyans has found the current measures inadequate, hence intend to stage public demonstrations.

A section of “ordinary and peaceful” citizens wrote to the police, requesting security for the planned protest scheduled for Tuesday. The demonstration is dubbed ‘The People’s March’.

The motive: “We are determined to end the theft of our resources, impunity and seethe need and urgency to address the state of the nation,” they wrote.

According to the Consumers Federation of Kenya, the mass action is aimed at urging the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Hajji alongside his criminal investigations counterpart, George Kinoti to “charge more than 10 Cabinet Secretaries implicated in corruption”.

This, even as President Uhuru Kenyatta has severally staged tough talks against graft.

“Wapende wasipende, rafiki ama adui, ndugu ama dada. Kama unataka kuingiana na ufisadi, tutapigana na wewe,” (Whether they like it or not, friend or enemy, brother or sister, we will fight you if you engage in corruption), he said.
