Nominated Jubilee MP Maina Kamanda was undressed in public by Nairobi governor Mike Sonko, who accused him of constructing buildings on Road reserve.
But as Kenyans dissect the meaning of Sonko’s tongue lashing, we have come across details that indicate the war is not just on corruption.
Sonko and Kamanda have personal scores to settle, and as long as they don’t settle them, then we should expect more bitter exchanges.
The war between Sonko and Kamanda can be traced all the way to 2017, during the Jubilee Party Primaries, where Sonko accused Kamanda of trying to rig in Peter Kenneth as the gubernatorial candidate.
Of course Sonko had a reason to be afraid, because Kamanda later Jaguar out of the Starehe Constituency nominations (Jaguar appealed and the rest is history)
In March this year, Kamanda bashed Sonko for playing popular politics with the Turkana hunger. He said the governor went to Turkana with his cameramen to get cheap political mileage.
“Dear Governor, after going to Turkana with your complete photograph team, please wake up and serve Nairobians. Streets are still dirty, hawkers being harassed, drainage pathetic and workers being fired left right like garbage. Nairobians also need service,” he said on a Facebook Post.
Sonko responded saying that he respected Kamanda and could not understand why he would make such remarks.
“What is wrong with this old man Hon. Maina Kamanda whom I respect a lot. Is it bad to help other Kenyans when they’re in need?” Sonko responded.
There have also been murmurs that Kamanda may try to run for governor in 2022. Sonko understands this and it could be why he is destroying him piece by piece.
