He was once accused of being a form two leaver, but did that hold him back? From being Makadara Member of Parliament, to Nairobi Senator and now Nairobi County Governor, his English has really evolved.

Back in 2012/2013, People used to troll him over his poorly constructed English.

On November 28, 2018, Sonko left many Kenyans in stitches with his fake American accent.

He unleashed his “hidden” accent as he delivered his speech during the opening of the Sustainable Blue Economy Conference at KICC.

Attendees included President Uhuru Kenyatta, UN Habitat executive director Maimunah Mohammed and other dignitaries.

The governor pronounced words like city as “cirry” and President Uhuru’s Kenyatta’s name as “Kenyarra”.

Later on, in January this year, Sonko yet again left the online community in stitches for obvious reasons.

He ended his prolonged silence on social media with a video of himself giving a speech to other delegates attending the conference.

Kenyans online eagerly listened to his address to establish if he had ‘carried’ his ‘acquired’ American accent to London.

And just as expected the governor couldn’t resist pulling off his infamous twang.

For instance, he kept saying Nairobi ‘cirry’ instead of Nairobi city.

But did you ever know that this was a way to his well established English? On Wednesday April 24, 2019, Sonko appeared to before Senate Committee on Devolution.

His well organised English left everyone wondering if it was really him. The Nairobi County boss was well composed and relaxed, spawning facts on why he has not been able to appoint his Deputy up to now since the resignation of Polycarp Igathe.
