Veteran bongo star Mr. Nice, real name Lucas Mkenda, has slammed claims that he is broke.
In an interview with Milard Ayo, Mr. Nice confirmed that reports of his dwindling fortunes were lies concocted by his enemies.
The Fagilia hitmaker said that he has lived his life and that misrepresentation of his modest status were attempts to soil his brand.
“Mimi ni mtu wa watu, mtu wa kawaida. Mimi nina tabia ya kujua kupata na kukosa. Kitu nachojaribu kulinda ni jina langu. Ndio maana huwezi nipata kwa fracas za ajabu; sijui scandal za wanawake. Huwezi nipata uko. Ndio maana wale wabaya wangu wanasema kafilisika kwa sababu ni kitu ambacho wanaweza nipiga nacho,” said Mr Nice.
He added that he made investments which allow him to live comfortably with his family without stressing over trivial matters such as power bills and disclosed that he sometimes carries money in his car’s boot while on escapades with friends.
“Ati Mr Nice anakaa bar! Yes, nakaa bar kwa sababu nina pesa na kama wananinulia wananinulia kwa sababu wanajua thamani yangu na kama nawanunulia najua thamani yao.Ukitaka kufanya starehe ya kweli lazima utembee na mzigo.
“Alafu kuna sehemu nyingine unaenda unakuta ata benki hakuna. Kama soldier anakuambia tulikua tuna amsha dude hapa tunaenda Arusha kula bata kidogo kubadilisha tu kwamba ta kama beer za kule atzikue za moto zinakuaga za baridi.
“Unaweza ukakuta benki haina pesa kwa hio inabidi tumetoka kama tuko kamili. Kwa hio lazima tuondoke kama tuko kamili na utaweka wapi kwingine kama sio kwenye boot?” disclosed Mr Nice.

“Mimi ndo maisha niliyojiamulia. Ndio maana nakuambia nikifa ata leo sina chochote cha kujutia, Mtanzania, Mwanaeastafrika mwenzangu sina nilicho acha nyuma. Hakuna kitu sijafanya. Wanaofanya wanaiga kutoka kwa Mr Nice.”
In October 2016, he was admitted at the Kahama Hospital in Shinyanga after he became seriously ill alleged to have been caused by alcohol poisoning.
At the time, he vowed he was not going to stop.
“I can afford it, so why should someone dictate what I should do with my money?” He posed.
An attempt to jumpstart his music career hit a snag after the controversial Tanzania musician was relieved of his contract by Grandpa Records for double playing the label.
“We terminated his contract after realizing he had another contract with Sallam Shara who’s currently managing Diamond. I spoke to Sallam and he even sent me a copy of his agreement with Mr. Nice,” Grandpa Records CEO, Refigah, was quoted saying.
