A family in Meru on Sunday night had to encounter a fire outbreak in the home, which they could sadly not escape from.
The catastrophe claimed the lives of a couple and their two children.
Police suspect that the fire was brought about by an electrical fault.
“It is unfortunate that we have lost a young family in the fire. We have had many house fires whenever there are outages. When the electricity is restored it comes at high voltages which can cause fire,” South Imenti MP Kathuri Murungi said citing increased fire outbreaks due to electrical faults in the area.
The couple, identified as Eric Guantai, wife Caroline Gakii and the children were trapped in their house at Kagwampungu in South Imenti, when the fire broke out around 3am. Neighbours cited that by the time they could reach the family it was too late.
MP Murungi asked the electricity company to address the issue and compensate for the losses caused in the incidents, if it is found that the incident occurred due to negligence.
