Donkey Meat Hunters give Murang’a Residents Sleepless Nights

With the Easter Festivities still on-going, Murang’a residents are not a happy lot. While Kirinyaga Couty is making good use of their donkeys, their neighbours are feasting on unknown meat.

 A donkey and its young one (foal) were stolen, slaughtered and their carcasses left in a thicket near Kabati market. Crooks behind killing and subsequent selling of donkey meat and skin struck Kabati area in Murang’a.

The illegal, unsafe meat is suspected to have to butchery and hotel operators there, Thika or Nairobi, with or without their knowledge.

There has been an increase in demand for donkey meat and its skin that is alleged to used by Chinese for making traditional medicine. This has encouraged theft and slaughter of these beasts of burden.
