Governor Ali Roba launched a Sh70 million worth El-Matt Supermarket becoming Mandera County’s first one-stop shop.
It was a moment of fanfare from residents who used to travel to Wajir,
about 400 kilometres away to shop in a supermarket 53 years since independence.
The opening of the supermarket opens doors to investors to the County and a testimony that Mandera County has investment potentials and opportunities for both locals and investors from all over the world.
Mandera town on the Kenya-Somalia-Ethiopia border is prone to terrorist attack cases.
The new supermarket, which reportedly seats on half an acre piece of land, is expected to create 21 job posts for county residents according to initial projections, with a target of 200 customers per day.
El-Matt supermarket would reportedly provide laundry, bakery and cafeteria services on top of availing household and food products.
