Former Presidential Candidate Professor Joseph Ole Kiyiapi has hit out at the new government housing levy that has created an uproar among Kenyan citizens.
According to Prof Kiyiapi the country does not lack resourses to implement government project but the problem is the fact that the money is mismanaged.
“We are already overtaxed, we give taxes for Government to implement programs including construction of houses (for who?). Now a housing levi, food levies, fuel levies, road levies etc Then billions of the same taxes are stolen! Our problem is NOT of scarcity BUT of mismanagement!”

His statement comes days after the government the implementation of the new housing levy which will see about 1.5 percent of kenyan salaries cut to cater for it.
However Kenyans took offence with Article 25 of the Act which states that anyone who misappropriates the housing fund will be liable to imprisonment for two years or be made to pay a fine not exceeding Sh10,000 or both.
