Raila Rescues Ruto from Orengo’s jaws

Siaya Senator James Orengo has been told to shelf his plans to impeach Deputy President William Ruto. According to The Standard, Raila has warned Orengo that his plans may backfire badly.

Last month, during a rally in Ugenya, Orengo promised to sponsor an impeachment motion against Ruto arguing that the country cannot move forward with a DP who is mentioned in every corruption scandal.

But Raila has told Orengo that the impeachment may not work in the interests of ODM.

“Achana kabisa na kuimba jina ya huyu mtu. Wacha mambo ya kuzungumzia mswada wa kumkabili bungeni, wacha kufananisha huyu mtu na kitu chochote cha chama, huyu siyo wa ligi yangu utampatia sifa za bure,” Raila is quoted by a local daily.

ODM party suffered an embarrassing defeat in Ugenya early this month after MDG’s David Ochieng beat Orengos Chris Karan.

Orengo had said that Ochieng was being sponsored by Ruto and that the election was a battle between Ruto and Raila.

Analysts believe that Ruto was given a win he didn’t deserve in the by-elections. In fact the DP posted a congratulatory message to Ochieng saying the hustler Nation has won.

ODM also used Ruto to campaign in the Embakasi South by-elections, which they still lost.

Orengo has also been accused of spreading rumours that there is an MoU between Jubilee and ODM in the 2022 elections.

Sources within ODM indicate that Orengo was not happy with the handshake since it brought Raila and Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju close together.

Tuju has set his eyes on the Siaya governor’s seat in 2022, a position that Orengo is also looking at.
