The ‘Data’ hitmaker, Proff, has broken the silence with a new hit ‘Save me’. The new hit which was produced by Chachazach and the video directed by Papashotit is at 306 views four hours after being released.

In the song, Proff reveals the pain he has been through after being heartbroken. He says; “All of us have been wounded and carry secret pain in our hearts. Music for the soul is healing for the heart. This song was for a point when I was looking for soul music to save myself. I hope it saves somebody too.”

Born in a family of five siblings at Nairobi’s Mbotela Estate in 1984, Proff grew up playing football and shooting marbles with his childhood friends. Ironically, the tragic passing of his dad in 1996 coincided with a newfound fascination with ragamuffin and dancehall music.

At the time, he was a Standard Six pupil at Umoja Estate’s Unity Primary School and would be regularly punished for making beats on his desk using rulers and pencils when others were studying. At Parklands Boys High School, Proff pursued his passion during school recess at the popular open-mic sessions at Florida 2000 where other Artistes like GidiGidi MajiMaji had been discovered.

During those sessions, he also discovered that he could dance pretty well, often missing the top prize by a whisker. But it was while in High School that he began writing songs, even enjoying a singing stint with The Funny Boys, a ragamuffin group consisting of two other schoolmates. He was later kicked out of the group for his overt criticism of their slow progress under a producer who was always too busy for them.

Soon after finishing High School, he started making rounds in Nairobi Estates looking for recording studios willing to work with him and mentor him. That’s how he stumbled upon Southwest Records which at the time was located in South B.
