How police extorted businessman of 20 million

A Nairobi businessman has filed a case against two police officers for conning him of his Sh 20 million.

Mr Harish Kanji Patel claims that the police officers of Lang’ata Police station robbed him of the money by forcefully compelling him to settle the Sh 20 million debt to another company.

He was allegedly forced to sign cheques and a formal commitment to repay the debt accruing from the sale of six vehicles worth more than Sh20 million.

The cheque went to Creative Joiners Ltd company.

The businessman is accusing police of misusing their power.

Appearing before Justice Joyce Nyamweya, the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (Ipoa) was ordered to probe into the case.

The judge ruled that the outcome of the investigations and appropriate recommendations to the relevant authorities be forwarded to Mr Patel within 90 days.
