Tough times as man attacked for dressing up as police to demand bribes

A man in Eldoret escaped death by a whisker after bodaboda riders seized and roughed him up for dressing up as a police officer in order to demand bribes from hawkers and motorists.

The bodaboda operators had been baying for his blood when they attacked the suspect on Tuesday at 8a.m. before police intervened.

Eldoret West OCPD Zachariah Bittok confirmed the incident, saying that police saved the man from the jaws of death imposed by the enraged motorcycle riders.

“Somebody informed our office that a police officer is being beaten up by motorbike operators along Mt. Kenya University streets, but after interrogation, they noticed he was not an officer.  It is fortunate that he is still alive, they saved him from death,” said Bittok.

Police also found ammunition and handcuffs in his pocket before driving out from the scene.
