Deputy President William Ruto is set to unveil his last bullet on a ‘destructive’ Odinga, whom he says is hell-bent on collapsing a party he wishes to use to ascend to power in.
At a Saturday fundraiser in Njoro, Nakuru County, Dr Ruto maintained Odinga’s role in the handshake was to disintegrate the ruling coalition.
He, however, reiterated that he would do whatever it takes to ensure the party remains solid despite the frequent rocking by Odinga.
What the Deputy meant by “what it takes” is presently unclear, however, speculations are high he would eject him out of Jubilee.
“All elected leaders in Jubilee [form] one team under the leadership of President Uhuru Kenyatta. We are going to defend its unity and development agenda at all costs,” said Dr Ruto.
President Kenyatta has been silent about the supremacy battles between his Deputy and former political nemesis Odinga.
this further complicates DP Ruto’s chances of convincing his boss to throw Odinga out of the window.
Ruto, who calls Mr Odinga a “Mganga”(witch) maintained that Jubilee party was born out of ‘prayers’, and that no one would succeed at wrecking it.
Handshake Deal
Details of what President Uhuru and ODM leader Raila Odinga discussed in the 2018 March 9 Handshake deal remain scanty.
Despite the two admitting that corruption and unity topped the agenda of the meeting which even DP Ruto was not privy to, allies of the DP have decried the peace pact.
The MPs have come to complain that Mr Odinga was using the Handshake to frustrate Dr Ruto.
Raila Eats into Jubilee
In his own admission, DP Ruto has in several occasions claimed that Odinga was working in cahoots with a section of Jubilee MPs to scuttle his chances at succeeding Kenyatta in 2022.
Tuesday, DP Ruto said some Jubilee MPs who were initially in ODM had ganged up together with Odinga to stop his ascension to power in 2022.
“Some of the individuals in the stop Ruto movement were in ODM, others were rejected by Jubilee members. It is a case of sour grapes because when they tried to rig elections we said no,” DP Ruto alluded to the Kieleweke MPs.
The members of this team opposed to the Deputy President are Former Starehe MP- Maina Kamanda, Former Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru, Joshua Kuttuny of Cherangany, and Nyeri Town’s Ngunjiri Wambugu.
MP Kuttuny said Saturday that the Jubilee Party was on its death bed due to the ‘arrogance of some people in the party’ and that it was only a question of when and not if the party would sink.
“The signs are written on the wall. There is an urgent need for a surgeon to salvage the party,” Kutuny remarked claiming some leaders never learn.”It is about arrogance it is not about if but when,” he added.
