How Raila has Expertly Killed Jubilee

Jubilee Party

There has been a lot of talk about how ODM is dead after suffering home and away defeats in the Ugenya and Embakasi South by-elections.

In fact, a few bloggers allied to the Tanga Tanga team were eulogizing the party on social media on the better part of Thursday morning.

But as we sing about ODM, let us not forget what is happening in the ruling Jubilee coalition.

A few weeks ago, some youths were pictured in Kiambu donning URP T-shirts to welcome William Ruto to the county.

According to insiders, this was a way of the DP’s camp testing the waters, to see if they can revive the party were he to leave Jubilee.

Truth is that, it is not all roses in the ruling party with two warring factions fighting to take over its control ahead of the 2022 elections.

Politicians allied to Deputy President William Ruto are pulling in a different direction, to the ones that are pro President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The supremacy battles played out publicly on Tuesday when Secretary-General Raphael Tuju announced that ODM had pulled out of the Wajir West by-election following consultations between the parties’ bosses.

Ruto had accompanied the former ODM candidate (Mohamed Yusuf Elmi) as he announced to the media that he had pulled out of the race following an agreement with elders and that he would back the Jubilee candidate.

Insiders have intimated that Tuju has refused to call for party elections for fear that Ruto’s friends would take over.

Things are so tense that President Uhuru and Raila had to postpone their tour of Mt. Kenya region for fear of a backlash.

Last year, former Vice Chair David Murathe shockingly resigned from the party and has been leading an onslaught on Ruto.
