The suspended Homeboyz Radio presenter, Didge, reveals why he made the distasteful remarks about the murder of Ivy Wangeci, Moi University Medicine student.

Speaking to Daily Active Thursday, Didge, said he attributes his regrettable remarks to “adrenaline moment”.

“I was on air with minimal time at my disposal to think through what I would say. Honestly, I hadn’t sat down and prepared to say what I said,” Didge told Daily Active.

The morning show host, however, said that he regrets the “unfortunate comments” he made about slain student Ivy Wangechi on his “Mtaani” show on Tuesday.

The radio host shockingly said: “She [Ivy] died because she wasn’t loyal. That is the honest truth, right? Yeah, ali-deadi juu hakuwa loyal, sindio?” posed Didge.

“I now I wish I did not say those words. I got wrong the sensitivity of the timing.”

Didge, whose real name is Max Nyatome, further says he apologises to Ivy Wangechi’s parents for making such a cruel speculation about their daughter.

“I am a father; I am a grown man, and the last thing I would want to do is subject my fellow parents to unwarranted pain. They [Ivy’s parents] did not deserve it,” said Didge.

“And, having replayed my words again and again, I can now say – soberly – that no person deserves to die due to love-related squabbles,” said Didge.

“I know I am a radio personality, and that position alone demands a lot of responsibility. I owe Kenyans sensitivity. I owe my colleagues too sensitivity. I humbly apologise for the goof. I want to assure Kenyans that there would never be a repeat of the mistake I made on air, never.”

Following the barrage of criticism directed at Homeboyz Radio over Didge’s remarks, the FM station announced Wednesday that it had suspended the “Mtaani” presenter with immediate effect.

“Last night (Tuesday, April 9) on Homeboyz 103.5 FM during the show Mtaani, one of our presenters made a comment regarding the recent killing of a student of Moi University,” said Homeboyz in a statement posted on their Twitter page.

“After reviewing the show recording, we have found the comments to be in extremely poor taste and apologise without reservation. We have removed the show from the schedule pending a further internal investigation. The presenter in question has also been immediately suspended by the station. “While the show is on air, we will take necessary steps to ensure that such a lapse doesn’t happen again,” said the radio station.

Social media was raging with fire following his goofy remarks other questioning the credibility of broadcast journalists in Kenya.
