Raila set to replace Sifuna as ODM crises intensify

After a rather embarrassing loss for ODM party in the just-concluded Ugenya and Embakasi South parliamentary by-elections, there is a sense that the mighty party is nearing its death bed.

Some loud rumors indicate that the party is ready to replace secretary Edwin Sifuna with reports indicating that majority of MPs have allegedly lost confidence in him.

Many wonder how little known Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG), which David Ochieng’ formed in 2013 upstaged ODM, which has massive following in Siaya County.

After the underwhelming loses, Sifuna unconvincingly told Nasa’s affiliates to brace themselves for more political fights.

“Wiper has won this one, but they can rest assured we will have more battles in future,” Mr Sifuna said of the Embakasi by-election.

In Ugenya, some leaders claimed ODM’s campaign was marred by the 2022 succession politics of Siaya governorship while other blamed the defeat on the failure by Raila to be on the forefront during campaigns.

“Raila’s failure to show up in the heat of the campaigns could have dampened their hopes or spirit and this gave MDG a leeway that Raila was not with his candidate,” said Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo.

Is Raila Odinga slowly losing his grip on the national politics or just a creation of paid tweeters?
