Kabogo wants abolishment of nominated seats in parliament

Former Kiambu governor William Kabogo has proposed the scrapping of special seats referred for nominated MPs, Women reps, and MCAs.

The former states that the money spent on them can e transferred to other development projects.

Annually the government spent approximately sh 3 billion to sponsor their flashy lifestyle

Without mincing words, Kabogo argues that the funds spent to sustain the MPs’ flashy lifestyle should instead be channeled to the development agenda. He was emphatic that it is the only way to relief a heavy burden on taxpayers, while at the same time reduce the ballooning wage bill.

Speaking, the former governor regretted that the system of nomination has been abused with only relatives and political cronies awarded the slots.

“The position of those nominated for MPs, Women rep and MCAs should be scrapped as they are all about discrimination as those awarded constitutes of relatives and political cronies, the nomination subject Kenyans to heavy taxation to sustain the lifestyle of those nominated,” he lamented.

Kabogo was categorical that the Kenyan woman has come of age,   accorded the respect they deserve therefore have the capacity to compete for elective positions. “We have a good list of women who are governors, MPs, and MCAs who competed against men and won,” he said.

However, he says that appointment to position in State corporations should be on a 50/50 gender basis in an effort to empower more women in power and leadership.

However, he was fast to caution against nomination of individuals implicated in graft to positions in state corporations. A few days ago, ICT CS Joe Mucheru revoked the appointment of Jared Kwaga as a member of the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC) board.

Kwaga is a key suspect in the alleged looting of KSh2 billion from the Migori County coffers and is among individuals awarded plum state appointments last week. DPP Noordin Haji and DCI chief George Kinoti are pushing to have all graft suspects barred from holding public positions.
