Contrary to what many men believe, most women don’t enjoy turning someone down. It’s awkward. It’s intense. And it can lead to uncomfortable or even dangerous situations and this is what Ivy Wangeci did.
Because of this, women try to reject others “gently” to protect themselves. Ironically, this usually ends up hurting men more and causes worse problems for everyone.
Ivy Wangeci’s parents say they knew the suspect. He used to visit them often and is a family friend. They were also shocked why Kinuthia killed Ivy. The suspect and the deceased knew each other since childhood.
Ali Kingi, Kinuthia claimed he had invested money and emotions in the woman, but his love and financial kindness wasn’t reciprocated as per his expectations.
THe suspect who has since spoken from the hospital bed claims ivy told him that she was organising her birthday party, which would happen soon. He then sent her some money to arrange for the event.
However since he sent the money, Ivy refused to pick his calls. This prompted him to travel [from Thika] to Eldoret to know why she was ignoring him.
He said he visited her last Friday, and their meeting was brief. Then according to him, the girl told him that she was going to her residential place to take off her professional attire. She told him she would be back. However, upon reaching her residential place, the woman switched off her phone.
Come Monday, Kinuthia went back to Eldoret to see Ivy but the woman continued to decline to pick his calls. He said it got to a point where she switched off her phone and according to him, that angered him.
On Tuesday, it is alleged that the suspect had initially travelled from Thika and parked his vehicle next to the institution main entrance before going to town using a motorcycle where he bought the knife and axe. He then concealed them inside a sack and headed back to MTRH to wait for the student.
They were sharpened in Eldoret.
It is believed that the middle-aged man slashed her neck with a knife attracting attention from the nearby motorbike operators who attempted to intervene but faced resistance from the assailant who fished out an axe from a white gunny bag and wielded it in the air amidst screams from the public.
“He was smartly dressed and the sight of the axe and knife he was holding scared most of us from approaching him. Realising that the student was still writhing in pain, he hit her with the axe and ran towards the School of Dentistry,” said Stanley Mutai, a local who arrived at the scene.
He added: “The public pelted him with stones until he collapsed. That is when police arrived at the scene and rescued the assailant before rushing him to MTRH because he had suffered injuries on the head.”
