News that a 6th year Medical Student at Moi University was brutally murdered in broad daylight at the Moi Teaching and Referal Hospital sent shockwaves across the Country with many questioning why a man, would drive all the way from Thika to Eldoret, buy an axe and later go on to kill a beautiful lady in full glare of the lights and the public.
Moi University College of Health Sciences Student Ivy Wangechi met her untimely death at the hands of a man who has now been identified as Naftali Kinuthia.
According to eye witnesses, Naftali pulled out an axe from a sack and hit Ms Wangechi on the head, axed her head and cut her neck with a sword and then let her die
He had earlier lured her out of the hospital where she was doing her practicals.
The anger which he displayed as he hacked her to death scared off dozens of people who rushed to the scene to rescue her.
He is said to have ensured she was dead before attempting to flee the murder scene.
Irate members of the public aided by boda boda operators cornered him and beat him up.
The man is said to be an employee of a Nairobi-based betting firm.
It took the intervention of police officers to rescue him from the mob. He has been admitted to the same hospital.
An uncle of the assailant, Mr Jotham Mwareri, said that the family was still in shock following the incident.
“He has all along been very dedicated to his work. We had not seen any strange behavior in him,” Mr Mwareri said of the computer science graduate.
Meanwhile, DCI detectives have already commenced investigations following the brutal murder.
