After being tipped of by residents, police in Mombasa’s Changamwe region were able to get a hold of a suspected gangster.
The suspect, popularly known as Morio, was shot dead inside his house in Mathare area in Changamwe at around 4:10pm on Monday.
Police believe the 36 year-old suspect was one of the ringleader of a gang terrorizing M-pesa agents and other businesses in the area.
“We believe the suspect is among the gang that has been robbing M-pesa shops in Changamwe, we are pursuing other three who are still at large,” said area police chief Daudi Loronyokwo.
He added that the officers stormed the suspect’s house and when he was ordered to surrender, he defied the orders and was shot.
This comes barely a week after an M-Pesa agent woman was shot dead in the area just after she closed her shop. The robbers were said to be gunmen on a motorcycle, and made away with unknown amount of money.
