President Uhuru once again showed Kenyans how close to his heart the unity pact with Raila Odinga is. A year later, the bond between two of the biggest politicians in the land has not only flourished but also grown deeper and stronger.
During his state of the nation address
“There will be no turning back on the Building Bridges Initiative that assures inclusion, cohesion, unity, and respect for all Kenyans,” he said, adding that he had have chosen the hard road of bringing unity and cohesion against the easy road of division.
Why is the president putting his head on the chopping board for Raila Odinga?
Over the last 12 months,Raila Odinga has provided Uhuru Kenyatta with the right political capital needed to govern a country. The ODM leader is one of the most astute politicians in history, he is a great strategist who has given Uhuru’s government legitimacy and a fighting chance to reform the republic.
Ever since their much-publicized March 9th 2018 handshake,Uhuru and Raila have brought their heads together and put aside political differences to work as a team. It is believed, the head of state is a frequent visitor of the Odinga’s in Karen, just as it is for the Odinga’s in State House.
The trust between the two leaders has grown two-fold to an extent where Raila Odinga can be tasked with spearheading government functions. Unknown to many, it was the ODM leader who brought in Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka and ANC Leader Musalia Mudavadi to the fold during the nationwide launch of the Huduma Namba.
Raila Odinga holds half of the country, while Uhuru holds the other half.It is for this reason that the head of state cannot let anything come in between the Building Bridges Initiative.
