Once a hater always a hater; Jurgen Klopp plays down Man City’s quadraple win chances

The Premier League is entering its homestretch as the top two teams show their jaws in pursuit of the trophy while the others try to show their muscle in fighting for the top four positions.

Its no doubt that both the players and the managers would love to see their foes slip to see a way through and Liverpool manager believes City are not going to make it too far.

Jurgen Klopp has hinted that Manchester City could be weaker than they appear.

As confidence and belief from within Pep Guardiola’s squad grows that an historic Quadruple could be possible this season, the Liverpool manager can understand why expectations are rising .

The Merseyside club will be one of the toughest obstacles to overcome in the trophy pursuit, but have seen a seven-point lead at the top of the table turned into a one-point deficit since New Year’s Day as the reigning Premier League champions have fought back relentlessly.

With six games to go in the league, Klopp doesn’t believe that momentum will help City’s quest.

“I’d think City can win all four (trophies) too if I was watching from outside,” he said. “From the outside, you’d think it looks like City can win all four, that’s how it is.

“City, at the moment, looks like the best team in the world. Barcelona, Juventus… with City, those are the three big Champions League favourites. And you think, ‘Okay, City looks a bit more stable than all of them.’

“But that doesn’t mean they will  win all their games. I can imagine that people think that, but it doesn’t make it more likely. I don’t care. I don’t bet, I’m not interested in odds.”

City has regained the aura of invincibility they built up last season over a spell since Boxing Day that has seen them win 21 of 22 matches in all competitions.

With relegation-threatened Brighton in the FA Cup and faltering Tottenham in the Champions League, April has been kinder than it could have been to the Blues despite the glut of games.

Klopp, though, suggested that results have not told the full story of performances as he continues to try to block out the hype.

“You see City playing, from the outside it looks like they will. But how many people watch all 90 minutes of City games? They won 2-0 against Fulham, we won 2-1 against Fulham [last month] – because we made a mistake that we usually don’t make. Both City goals against Fulham came from errors.

“I’m not interested in what people think, especially those who aren’t with us.”
