Nairobi’s county government has come up with a master plan to clear its Central Business District (CBD) of hawkers.

This is through a proposed Bill that intends to convict and fine both hawkers and those buying from them.

“This will not be a way to collect money but a deterrent to the menace,” said county Minister for Trade and Tourism Allan Igambi.

The Bill is aid to have been introduced by Governor Mike Sonko’s predecessor Evans Kidero.

It is set to attract a fine of Sh2,000 on the spot or an alternative imprisonment.

CEC Igambi added that the proposed ban is also a way to maintain food hygiene because most hawkers sell food items that are dirty hence compromising the health of city residents.
