Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has today launched the electronic disbursement of Sh400m Nairobi County bursary for the needy Secondary students.
The Governor noted that the funds will be channeled direct to schools of the beneficiaries.
Sonko gave these remarks during the presiding over of the event where bursaries were issued to students.
The Governor says that this
“I thank the staff who have diligently processed this Bursary as well as Principals of Secondary Schools who have kept our children in school as they await the disbursement.” he said during the event
From lessons learnt during the processing of the fund last year, Sonko’s administration decided to disburse this year’s bursaries directly to Schools Bank Accounts through electronic funds transfer (EFT).
Last year some crooks reportedly made alterations and sent some money to non-existent schools. To prevent such fraud, the Governor said that they will establish that all students in their list of beneficiaries exist before proceeding with the payment.

The Governor also reiterated his commitment to contribute towards addressing inequalities in access to education for the poor and marginalised citizens of Nairobi by launching the disbursement of Nairobi City County Bursary 2019.
In order to address the issue of lack of opportunities for Technical and Vocational Training for Nairobi’s large out-of-school population, Sonko’s administration in collaboration with Good Neighbours – Kenya Foundation, an NGO has put up a state of the Art Vocational Training Centre in Dandora.
The Constitution of Kenya 2010 assigns
Governor Sonko assured that his administration is committed to meeting this noble constitutional obligation and so far, they believe that their efforts count
