A section of ODM leaders led by Busia governor Sospeter Odeke Ojaamong has requested president Uhuru to rescind the decision for Uganda to have a dry port in Naivasha.
Speaking the governor said that Busia should have hosted the dry port due to its proximity to Uganda, Rwanda and Southern Sudan.
“We held a consultative meeting with MCAs where I called on President Uhuru Kenyatta to rescind the decision to have Uganda construct a dry port in Naivasha,”he said.
Ojamoong said that they have enough land for the construction of a dry port that will help to improve the region economy.
“We have enough land to have the dry port constructed here; having Uganda to build a port in Naivasha will not help but will hurt the economy of Busia County,”He said.
The meeting also agreed to improve on revenue collection which had realized a declining trend since 2013/2014 financial year.
“We want to give Village,Ward and Sub County administrators authority to supervise and collect revenue as we embark on meeting the target of 452 million for the financial year 2018/2019, the World Bank has allocated Sh47m for capacity building and public participation.
The absorption rate for development projects in the county is a paltry 9 per cent warning that future contracts will be handled by contractors who have the financial muscle to execute such contracts without seeking for down payment.
Future ward projects should be those that affect residents directly like provision of safe and clean water, roads and affordable health care.
