Chelsea Off the Hook as Man Utd, PSG and Dynamo Kiev Heavily Fined by UEFA

European clubs Dynamo Kiev, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Dinamo Zagreb and Malmo FF have been hit heavily by Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). Chelsea got off on a charge but were fined heavily for another prohibited act.

UEFA has punished Dinamo Zagreb for racist behavior by fans during the Europa League with a one-game stadium closure next season.

With Dinamo 17 points clear in Croatia’s top league, the stadium ban is likely to apply in July for the home leg of a Champions League second qualifying round game.

UEFA says a second stadium closure was deferred with the club put on two years’ probation. Dinamo was fined 20,000 euros ($22,400) for the racism and must pay a further 47,000 euros ($53,000) for fan disorder and a stadium security issue.

Dinamo was previously fined 33,000 euros ($37,000) by UEFA for similar incidents during the round of 32 game against Viktoria Plzen.

UEFA did not specify details of the incident when Dinamo hosted Benfica last month at Maksimir Stadium in the Europa League round of 16.

Meanwhile, UEFA has ended an investigation into anti-Semitic chants by Chelsea fans at a Europa League game that the club apologized for.

UEFA says its disciplinary panel closed the case Thursday, meaning Chelsea will not face any sanction over a charge of “racist behavior.” The chant was heard at a group-stage game against Vidi in Hungary in December. Chelsea quickly condemned the behavior saying it is “abhorrent to this club.”

UEFA earlier, did fine Red Star Belgrade 64,000 euros ($73,000) for “illicit chants” by fans at a Champions League game against Paris Saint-Germain in December.

The Serbian champion had been fined 25,000 euros ($28,500) for illicit chants when the teams played in Paris in October.

PSG was also fined 41,000 euros ($47,000) for various fan incidents at Manchester United in the round of 16 first leg. UEFA also ordered PSG to compensate Man United for damage at the stadium.

Chelsea however was fined €13,000 after fans were found guilty of throwing objects and invading the pitch against Malmo on February 14. UEFA has told the Swedish club they must cough up €58,000 for also throwing objects and setting off fireworks.

Dynamo Kiev have been given a partial stadium closure for their next home European game and ordered to display a UEFA ‘#EqualGame’ banner for throwing objects, setting off fireworks, a pitch invasion and blocking stairways against Olympiacos.
