Liverpool Defender Nearly Broke His Foot While Celebrating After Beating Tottenham

Performances at this stage of the season are always irrelevant. Instead, results are what matters a lot.

That’s certainly the case as far as Liverpool are concerned.

The Reds went into their clash against Tottenham at Anfield knowing that if they win their remaining seven league matches, they have a fantastic chance of winning their first ever Premier League title.

And Jurgen Klopp’s side picked up another three points against Spurs to move back to the top of the league – two points above Manchester City having played a game more.

But Liverpool fans would have liked it to be a bit more comfortable.

Despite Roberto Firmino giving the home side a first-half lead, Lucas Moura equalised with 20 minutes remaining.

It needed a 90th-minute own goal from Toby Alderweireld to send Liverpool back top.

Anfield erupted as Hugo Lloris pushed Mohamed Salah’s header onto Alderweireld’s legs resulting in the ball bouncing into the back of the net.

But there were still four minutes of added time to survive.

And even before the match kicked off again, Virgil van Dijk did his best to waste a bit of time.

Fan footage has captured Van Dijk running to the corner to join in the celebrations with the matchball in his hands.

He then proceeds to boot the ball high into the Main Stand.

Many fans thought that Van Dijk had actually cleared the stand but another angle shows that wasn’t quite the case.

Liverpool fans were probably in no rush to return it though and the Merseysiders managed to hold on for a vital three points.

After the match, Van Dijk was seen with ice on his ankle – probably from how hard he had kicked the ball into the stands!

But the Dutchman claimed that he was “fine” when asked by reporters after the final whistle.
