Governor signs MOU with Pharm Access to enhance universal health coverage

Nyeri governor Mutahi Kahiga has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Pharm Access Foundation Kenya (M-tiba) in an effort to make UHC programme a success in Nyeri County.

Speaking,the governor said that the MOU will govern the health system in the County.

“The system will retain patient history to ensure that higher facility/hospitals do not offer the same medications given at lower level. This will help enhance service delivery and diagnostics,”he said.

Pharm Acess Kenya is a Key stakeholder in the implementation of Universal Health Coverage in Nyeri County.

Pharm Access CEO Mr. Kees Van Lede said the the County Government has taken in steps making UHC a success in Nyeri County noting that UHC registration currently stands at 84% and it is still ongoing.

Nyeri County is one of the pilot counties selected in the implementation of the UHC programme.

In attendance during the signing were Health Services CEC, Dr.Rachel Kamau, Chief Officer Health Newton Wambugu, Dennis Thuku from Pharm Acess, County Secretary Ben Gachichio, Chief of staff, Paul Wambugu, and Economic advisor Simon Gachunia.

The governor said that the project is in line with Uhuru’s ig 4 agenda especially health coverage.

He welcomed other partners to join and invest in the County to improve the lives of the locals and in turn the productivity will increase.
