Chief killed after being knocked over on a boda boda

While on his way home as a passenger on a motorcycle, Kirinyaga chief David Mwai Kiragu was killed by a hit and run car on Sunday.

The chief was found dead alongside an unconscious boda boda rider along the Kagio -Baricho road.

The chief’s body and the boda boda rider were discovered by a resident while on his way to deliver milk.

He was on his way home from Kagio Town when the unknown vehicle hit the boda boda from the rear before speeding off.

The witness, Samson Muthii said he heard someone groaning by the roadside and on getting closer found a boda boda, its rider and a lone passenger whom he identified as the area Chief.

Kirinyaga West Sub -County Commissioner Moses Ivuto who also visited the scene said that government had lost a dedicated and honest officer.

“Kiragu was among the Chiefs in this Sub-County who had managed to contain illegal brewing and consumption of illicit liquor and other hard substances,” he said.

The injured boda boda rider was rushed to a private hospital at the nearby Kagio town where he was admitted while the mangled wreckage of his motorcycle towed to Kagio Police Station.

Kiragu’s body has since been moved to the Kerugoya county mortally for a postmortem examination while police have embarked on investigations to track down the driver of the ‘hit and run’ vehicle.
