Residents of Kamulu, Machakos county were left in shock after an 11-year-old boy committed suicide on Saturday evening after he hanged himself to avoid punishment from his father.
Confirming the incident on phone, area Assistant Chief Mary Willy said that was so it unfortunate that children are resolving to suicide rather than opening up and expressing their problems.
Mary Willy noted that the boy had left behind a suicide note stating that he was afraid of being beaten by his dad.
“It was reported to me that an eleven-year-old boy had committed suicide, I went to the home and confirmed the reports.
His siblings were okay and according to the suicide letter left behind, the boy took his life because of fearing his dad’s beatings,” she noted.
The chief advised parents to always talk to their children from time to time to build trust and discipline them with love in order to avoid such happenings.
“Some children may be psychologically disturbed and parents should hold talks with their kids so that they can open up to them. Whenever kids have done wrong they should be corrected and disciplined in a loving way so that the parent-child bond is not destroyed,” she added.
Suicide among the underaged children is on the rise due to family wrangles.
