Awkward position: Raila at odds with most trusted general

ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga is displeased with Siaya Senator James Orengo, Nation reports.

According to the publication, the AU envoy is not happy with Orengo over his recent remarks alluding to a deal between the president and ODM.

On March 13, the Siaya Senator disclosed that Raila had a secret political pact with Uhuru and this did not sit well with the latter.

A day after he made the revelation, Raila asked ODM Chairman John Mbadi to set the record straight.

“It is premature and too early for anybody to purport to be speaking for ODM and implying that ODM has already entered into any arrangement with any party or individual,” Mbadi explained.

In an interview with Nation on Saturday, the Suba South MP disclosed that some ODM members were putting Raila in an awkward position.

“It should be noted that their remarks are not attributable to ODM. Our people must be responsible with their statements going forward,” he stated.

Orengo’s utterances have also caused friction within the opposition party. Raila’s loyalists have accused him of spoiling the party.

Most of them feel that his remarks were careless since it gave Ruto’s allies ammunition to criticize the handshake.

The DP’s confidants have often criticized the handshake since they feel that it was meant to block Ruto from ascending to the presidency, Orengo’s comments seem to confirm this.

President Uhuru Kenyatta was also not amused with Orengo’s remarks, particularly his assertion that they met for four hours.

Notably, Orengo is one of Raila’s most trusted advisors.
