Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti and Director Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji have been facing numerous attack from Deputy President William Ruto’s allies.
The Tanga Tanga brigade have been accusing DPP Haji and DCI Kinoti of being used by their political enemies to link them with corruption.
A day after President Uhuru Kenyatta defended them against attacks by a section of Jubilee Politicians ,details have emerged of a plot to wrestle power from the two.
At the center of the scheme is the Anti-Corruption Laws (Amendment) bill sponsored by Ruto’s vocal ally and supporter Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro.
The bill seeks to wrestle power from DCI’s investigations of corruption related cases and greatly limits the powers of the DPP, restricting him only to the prosecution of criminal matters.
Standard reports that should the bill which has already gone through first reading in parliament become law,all corruption cases handled by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) as per the wishes of a section of DP Ruto’s allies who have openly called for the disbandment of the DCI and DPP.
The Tanga Tanga group allied to DP Ruto have in recent days questioned DPP and DCI involvement in investigating corruption matters, arguing that the EACC is the only body constitutionally mandated to probe allegations of graft.
They are on record accusing DCI George Kinoti of being used to settle political scores and calling for his immediate sacking, terming him as very useless.
However, the camp supporting the bill will not have it easy as those in support of the ongoing efforts to fight corruption have vowed to floor the bill.
On Friday, Homa Bay Woman Rep Gladys Wanga warned that this is the latest attempt by “owners of the Bill” to stop the war on graft.
“We know who the sponsor of the Bill represents, but we will fight any attempts at clawing back the achievements we are gaining now with the vibrant officers at the helm of investigations and prosecutions,” declared Wanga.

President Uhuru Kenyatta faulted a section of DP Ruto’s allies led by Kipchumba Murkomen who are on record calling for the immediate sacking of DCI George Kinoti and DPP Noordin Haji amidst claims of bias in the fight against corruption.
“If somebody feels this action was not good, put it on the table and say why. We don’t want corruption to be used to victimise people. We want corruption fight to resolve issues and benefit 50 million Kenyans,” The president stated.
